Meet Our Volunteers: Emily

We caught up with Emily, one of our dedicated volunteers, who told us a bit about herself and her experience working on the history project.

What do you do and where are you from?

‘I’m a graduate student at UCL, from Surrey County, but moving to Hoxton for the summer and hope to volunteer even more at Shoreditch Town Hall when I do!’

What drove you to volunteer on this project?

‘Connecting with the community, brushing up on my interview skills, and giving back’

What was your relationship to Shoreditch Town Hall before the project?

‘I love the area, I’m passionate about the arts and believe in the mission of the Town Hall’

Your favourite moment of the project so far?

‘When the boxers I interviewed started making a fuss because one of them wouldn’t stop rambling on, but the others knew I was trying to get some quality soundbites and a variety of stories! It was very comical.’

Your most memorable interview/quote?

‘Interviewing the boxers for sure, but listening to Patrick Hamill tell me about the evolution of the space was quite fascinating’

Your favourite thing about London?

‘The calibre and quantity of shows going on around town, all the amazing and yummy food and people watching on the Tube’

Have you previously volunteered on anything like this?

‘In the US I helped build content on up-and-coming musical acts for a Podcast show. We shot and interviewed bands and compiled them into little snippet reels. I also built several insights films commercially for Fortune 500 Brands’

What did you hope to get from volunteering with Shoreditch Town Hall on this project, and would you say you achieved that?

‘Meet new people, give back to the community and learn some new interview tricks. I definitely feel like it’s been a fulfilling experience for me. Thank you Shoreditch’

Tell us a fun fact about you!

‘I have a family member buried at Westminster Abbey!’
